Have Miracles Ceased?

Years ago, I was attending a book club. We were discussing an autobiography that was written in 2004. The book contained one miracle story after another. And not just nice feel good stories but true miracles that involved angels, healings, and God’s intervention.

One of the ladies made a comment that really surprised me. She said, “We don’t need miracles like this anymore because we don’t need proof of God. We already know he exists so we don’t need an angelic visitation in order to believe.” I could see her point. She was solid with God. But what about those struggling with their faith? What about the wounded? What about the seeker?

I for one had experienced miracles in my life and knew the power they had to bolster my faith. I reflected on this comment for a while. Okay, years. And I wondered, why don’t we have extraordinary miracles today? As I pondered this, I realized I was making an assumption. Maybe people do experience miracles today. Maybe miracles haven’t ceased. Maybe we just don’t talk about them enough. Maybe there isn’t a safe forum to share.

That’s why I’ve created the new FREE Wonders and Miracles podcast. A show dedicated to the miraculous moments in everyday lives. This podcast is a safe place to celebrate awe-inspiring true stories from regular people like you and me. People who have experienced something surprising and wonderful that is the work of a Divine Source.

In a world full of seemingly endless struggle, this podcast helps us become aware of and recognize God’s miracles in our lives. In Psalms 96:3-4  it states, “Declare his glory among the nations, his wonders among all people. For the LORD is great, and greatly to be praised.” Let’s celebrate wonders and miracles together. Because I believe, the more miracles we notice the more miracles happen.

  1. I wondered about miracles for a while like you…..OK years.
Miracles happen every second of the day …but you know….. what is a miracle to me is not necessarily a miracle to you. Let me explain a homeless finds a $100 bill, which was blowing in the wind on the pavement. To a millionaire that is not a miracle but to the homeless that was a gift from God. So as miracles are personal they never get advertised or broadcasted. God is quietly confident……and that my dear fellow in itself is the greatest of the miracles.

  3. I totally agree that there aren’t many safe forums to share miracles, and that includes many churches because many actually teach that miracles have ceased. Miracles happen every moment of every day, but Satan either wants to diminish the impact, take credit for the miracles, convince us that it is something like luck, providence or our own actions that bring the miracles about.
The truth is that here in America we struggle with faith. Doubt and fear can actually stifle the miracle. God is all powerful, but for miracles to be able to manifest people need to have faith. If you look back Jesus, said things like: “Your faith has made you whole”. When he healed the daughter he only allowed the parents and James and John because everyone else doubted. See when we doubt that the miracle is possible, we offend God. Doubt takes many forms, but many of the big offenders are, self reliance, luck, playing off the miracle as coincidence.

The answer is that we need to believe, that they exist, that they are available, and keep asking!

  4. ‘These signs shall follow them that believe… ” This was from the Gospel of Mark’s version of the Great Commission. “And they went forth, and preached every where, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following. Amen.” – verse 20. Have miracles ceased? Many like to quote that when that which is perfect is come… and so forth. The only perfection I know is that Perfect One whom we are all to model our lives after Who has not yet come unless we all have missed something very important! Mark 16 coincides with Acts chapter 1 followed by the partial fulfillment which in my mind continues all the way through history to the Philadelphia church in Revelation 3. She has a little strength and has not denied the Name above all names… She has an open door… and will be rescued from the that time of testing that will come upon the whole world… and I hope that we can say that that has not happened yet… Faith is the substance of things hoped for… Who has believed our report? If that which is perfect has come, which version of that would you choose?
